What is it?
Cosmetic acupuncture is also known as facial enhancement or rejuvenation. It is a totally natural, non-surgical facial that more people are turning to as a viable and highly acclaimed alternative to more invasive treatments. It involves placing tiny, painless acupuncture needles into various points on the face.
I will also needle points on your legs, arms and body to help balance and harmonise your internal organs. Inner-health is paramount to outer-health and has always been integral to Acupuncture’s holistic approach, an ideal balance of mind, body and spirit. It is about how we feel inside and how those feelings are expressed on your face. If your system is happy, healthy and working well, then your skin will work well too.
How does it work?
The treatment increases local circulation of blood and lymph to the face, improves muscle tone and encourages tightening of the pores. It promotes the skin’s self-repairing mechanisms, stimulating the production of collagen which keeps the skin looking youthful.
- Appearance of fine lines and wrinkles can be minimised
- Sagging facial skin can be firmer
- Decreased puffiness around the eyes
- Increased circulation – especially to the face, giving the complexion more radiance and better skin tone
- Improvement to sleep and general mood
- Enhanced lymphatic drainage
Micro-needling is a minimally invasive treatment to rejuvenate the skin. A device with fine needles creates tiny punctures in the top layer of the skin, which triggers the body to create new collagen and elastin. Results can include improved texture and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars and pore size. Micro-needling also enables the serum used at the end of the treatment to travel deeper into the skin. A great little boost at the end of your treatment!
A course of treatment is recommended to maximize the effect. Most patients notice a difference after a few sessions; however, the effects become most noticeable and lasting after more. Each person responds differently, depending on their skin and lifestyle. Following the initial course of treatment, maintenance treatments can prolong the results for many more years.
For best results I would recommend six weekly treatments, plus a seasonal ‘top up’ at the change of each season.
Your facial will start with a consultation to find out your skin concerns. You will also be asked about your general health to understand any underlying issues that may be contributing to your skin’s appearance.
During the treatment tiny needles are placed on points on the face, neck and ears focussing on your areas of concerns. After approximately 25- 30 mins the needles are removed. A Vitamin serum is then applied using a facial massage and acupressure technique.
